Want to buy local grown organic products?
Go to Natural House, equivalent to Whole Foods in the U.S.
Believe it or not, it is sometimes difficult to find pure natural and organic products in Japan.
Having 30 years of history, Natural House is a well known organic store chain with 15 locations in Tokyo (Aoyama, Shinjuku, Shimokitazawa, etc) and another 15 locations nationwide. It is considered as almost equivalent to Whole Foods in the U.S.
Natural House has a vast selection of natural and organic products such as vegetables, fruits, fish, meat, dairy products, seasoning, grains, teas, snacks, skincare products, baby products, books, kitchen products, gift items, you name it. Many are grown and produced by local organic farmers using traditional farming methods, which promise maximum safety and freshness. Natural House’s original products are particularly superb. They have partnerships with many local organic farmers; therefore they can provide enticing original products such as special tea selections, beans, rice, etc.
In the back of the store, they usually sell light lunch boxes and prepared products, so if you don’t have time to cook, you can at least purchase fresh prepared food.
For those who have no access to the store, a direct mail service where you can order through their catalog and online shopping are available (unfortunately, no international shipping is available yet).
It is fun to just surf their online store to see what’s new, too!
